Drill and Needle Free Dentistry

Dr. Rothenberg announces that he is now providing patients with dental treatments free from the shrill of the high speed drill and the fear of needles for anesthesia with a revolutionary new technology called the Millennium Hydrokinetic YSGG laser system.  This technology allows us to perform all classes of cavity preparations without using any needles, anesthesia or the high speed drill in most cases

In October 1998, the Food and Drug Administration cleared the Millennium Hydrokinetic Er, Cr:YSGG Laser for cutting hard dental tissue including enamel, dentin and caries.  This patented Hydrokinetic technology was developed by BIOLASE Technology, Inc based in San Clemente, California. Hydrokinetic energy is produced by firing laser energy into a spray of atomized water.  The water is energized and then is capable of cutting a wide range of human tissue including enamel (the hardest substance in the body), bone, cartilage and soft tissue.  Hydrokinetic cutting does not transmit heat to the target tissue whereas other modalities of cutting, such as a high speed dental drill, laser power and electro-cautery, create heat when cutting tissue.  As everyone knows, heat causes pain.  Hydrokinetic energy can perform numerous dental procedures with little or no pain, virtually eliminating the need for anesthesia in most cases.

Most procedures can be done without anesthesia, without needles or patient trauma; quickly cuts all parts of the tooth including enamel, dentin and caries; effectively performs numerous soft tissue procedures with little or no bleeding; avoids many common problems of the high speed drill.  For example, when a high speed comes in contact with a tooth, it causes micro fissures (small cracks) which weaken the tooth structure and eventually allow decay to set in.

Does not leave a smear layer, which allows the Millennium to create a high quality surface for bonding composites, veneers, etc.
